MARIONNETTE TEMES NEVIMBUR, ÎLE DE MALEKULA, VANUATU Brown patina wood, giant spider web, polychrome vegetable paste (nambugi), wild pig tooth, feather, earth, accidents. H. 97 cm Puppet representing a female figure with raised arms and digitized hands. The face is modeled in high relief, depicting a nose, mouth and eyebrow arch, with a wild pig's tooth running from the corners of the mouth to the eyebrows. The lanky bust features a necklace and a small chest, while the arms are also adorned with ornaments. This type of work was part of the mobile heritage of various initiation and ritual societies. Its age and the quality of its decoration make it a very fine example of this type.
