Marcel PAGNOL - Lot 44
Marcel PAGNOL Handwritten letter on two sheets, written to one of his publishers about his nomination for the Populist Novel Prize, dated May 30, 1963. "Dear Friend, Here's a letter I'll treasure, and which gives me confidence: a writer never knows what he's doing. I thank you for your friendly offer of the Populist Novel Prize: but I'm long past the age of prizes, and I'd be ashamed to deny it to a young writer, for whom it would be a sonecration. So I consider that I've had it, and that consequently it's no longer necessary to give it. You absolutely mustn't say "Dear Master" to me, including yourself, but come and have a drink at my place one evening around six o'clock, where you'll probably meet some of your friends. I'm leaving Paris until Monday, but I'll phone you when I get back. Yours in friendship Marce Pagnol" With bic annotation
