BALAFON, WEST AFRICA Wood with brown patina, plant fibers, calabashes L. 114 cm The balafon is one of the best-known traditional instruments of African culture. Like the kora, it is still very present in modern music. This lamellophone is made up of nineteen "keys", whose resonance is enhanced by calabashes, inscribed underneath the instrument.
